Job Description

Are you an experienced professional in project controls or a senior project coordinator ready for the next step? Or perhaps a project manager looking for a change of scenery? The role in a nutshell



In this role, you will use your extensive project management skills to lead project teams and to ensure capital studies & projects are executed as planned. You will be directly responsible for delivering major and intermediate studies and may provide guidance and support to operationally managed capex studies.



You will demonstrate your leadership by establishing projects governance, developing performance monitoring and reporting, and coordinating the activities of cross-functional Subject Matter Experts located in North America and Europe.



The role will focus on zinc metallurgical assets, so a background in metallurgical processes (smelting and refining) is advantageous.



The role is listed as study manager but is not necessarily exclusive to studies as it may support projects in execution as well.



More specifically, you will be expected to:



  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to Project Team Members to foster a collaborative and performing work environment;
  • Review and ratify scope of work documentation and work with team members and consultants as required;
  • Ensure adherence to the Capital Management Framework (CMF);
  • Identify, track and achieve value opportunities on studies you are involved in;
  • Monitor project performance, identify areas for improvement, and generate ideas for innovation and continuous improvement of required systems, processes and outputs;
  • Oversee study team to deliver project scopes, plans and budgets, deliverables, according to the CMF;
  • Report study and project progress to Head of Studies and Steering Committees;
  • Manage project approval protocols;
  • Develop and implement project controls for the project and keep stakeholders informed of deviations while bringing recommendations for change as the case may be;
  • Oversee and manage the development and maintenance of project schedules / budgets. This includes monitoring and forecasting, along with preparing and approving monthly project reports;
  • Monitor and track projects for progress, accuracy and confirmation of progress payments. Be involved in any negotiations/approvals of extras and changes and dispute resolution;
  • Develop and maintain trending registers, project change registers and/or any other developed monitoring and control tools. Utilize S-Curve, CPI (cost performance index) and Earned Value tools;
  • Oversee and manage study risk register.



Do you have what it takes?



  • You have completed tertiary education in Engineering; (metallurgical or process, or mechanical, electrical, civil), project management, or other relevant degree;
  • 15 years of experience including 5 years in project and study management with a strong focus on project controls. Experience in resource-based industries is an asset;
  • Knowledge of risk management;
  • Proven ability to lead and influence others to deliver business outcomes;
  • Economic and financial management capabilities and experience – the ability to challenge study trade-offs for value;
  • Experience managing and developing customer & stakeholder relationships as well as coordinating and leading internal teams;
  • Experience in Project Management and PM software (Primavera P6, MS Project). PMP certification is an asset.
  • Current knowledge of best practices and strong focus on continuous improvement;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders and present information in a concise manner;
  • Self-Starter, solution-oriented and collaborative;
  • Good organizational and time management skills to efficiently work across multiple projects located in different time zones.



Language: English and French a very strong asset. Knowledge of another language such as Spanish, German, Italian is an asset.




Travel: You must be willing to travel domestically and/or internationally for approximately 20-30% of the time and work with colleagues located in different time zones.
